I am a DC-based designer and technician specializing in lighting and scenic design who is passionate about enriching and enlivening communities through creative methods of storytelling.
Growing up in Wilkes-Barre, PA, I got my start in theatre helping my family members as a stagehand and carpenter for local community productions, eventually progressing into lighting design for several musicals at the Theatre at the Grove in Nuangola, PA. My work with small, local theatres fed my appreciation for community arts programs and taught me how to work creatively with limited resources. Experience I have worked with several regional theatres throughout the DC Metro area and New Jersey, including Mosaic Theatre, Avant Bard, Georgetown University, The Keegan Theatre, Spooky Action Theater, Urban Arias and Surflight Theatre. I was the lighting designer and master electrician for Surflight's summer 2020 outdoor season, where I designed and led the installation of a lighting plot for a temporary, socially-distanced outdoor theatre in Beach Haven, NJ. Currently, I am employed as a lighting controls designer by CM KLING + ASSOCIATES, an architectural lighting design firm in Alexandria, VA. I am responsible for specifying lighting controls systems, working to ensure optimal end-user comfort, functionality, and energy efficiency for both new construction and renovations, and I am involved in all stages of design, from schematic development through construction administration. I also work part-time for the DC event production company Optimum Audio, where I specialize as a lighting designer and web stream technician for a wide range of events and performances. My work with this company has given me the opportunity to work for a variety of high-profile clients, including Georgetown University, Harvard University, Tufts University, Politico, The Embassy of India, and the US National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and have featured speakers including Nancy Pelosi, Madeleine Albright, Ken Burns, and Mark Zuckerberg. As an undergraduate at Georgetown University, I served as the Technical Director for the Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society and led a mainstage production as Producer. I also worked as a designer and master electrician for several plays and musicals in a variety of blackbox theatres across campus. Skills and Proficiencies While design is my main focus, I am a skilled technician with experience in carpentry, metalworking, scenic painting, stage construction, electrics, analog and digital PA systems, projector and LED wall setup, video switching and scaling, and managing live web streams across multiple media platforms. Software skills include Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, QLab, Isadora, ETC Mosaic, and Dante Audio Networking (Level 1 Certified). Console proficiencies include ETC EOS family, Yamaha QL series, and Behringer X32. |
